The Old New Me

I’ve noticed a dramatic shift in my attitude towards my brunette locks this summer. I’ve finally started to accept my natural hair color again, and dare I say, appreciate it. It’s been 2 and half years since I said goodbye to my blonde ambitions. The problem though is that it was never on my own terms. It was due to my dire financial status (as I thought I was going to be jobless) and the severe damage that was being done to my hair. Unfortunately for me, I have very thin, fragile hair that breaks easily. I’m surprised my tresses were able to handle the decade long onslaught of abuse it suffered from being bleached every month.

As my grief lessened, I noticed I didn’t recognize myself anymore when I looked back on old photos of my Khaleesi days, which meant I no longer identified as a blonde. I was a brunette again, but it still took a long time for me to take off my wigs for photoshoots due to my sheer laziness of not wanting to style my own hair.

It wasn’t until this summer that I found Insert Name Here, and decided to take my chances on a ponytail that matched my natural locks. I instantly fell in love when I styled my hair for the first time. I felt like fucking Ariana Grande. It’s been a goal of mine to muster up enough confidence to do a photoshoot as a brunette this year, and now I wish I had done it sooner.

What started as me looking into simple hairstyles for Disney, as Orlando weather is usually hot and humid in October, sparked a whole new obsession. Now, I have four ponytails and two hair buns. I’m excited to try out space buns and pigtails too. I’m also finally toying with the idea of clip-in extensions again, and buying new styling tools to finally do my own hair again.

So, here’s to my first photoshoot in probably 10 years as a brunette. Surprise bitch, I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me...
