Halloween 2024!

It's hard to believe how long it's been since I last donned a costume on Halloween—almost a decade, I think. The last time I fully embraced the holiday was when I cosplayed as Chucky, and as I sift through old photos, I can't help but appreciate the effort I put into that look. It may have been a while ago, but in my heart, I still believe that cosplay was a total slay. That said, I’ve definitely evolved in my skills and style over the years, so I’ve been itching to give my Chucky costume a modern twist. I often reminisce about how inspired I was by YouTubers like Glam & Gore (Mykie), who motivated me to explore various horror-themed cosplays throughout my cosplay journey.

I was inspired by Julia Hart to do a goth look this Halloween. She wrestles in AEW as a member of the House of Black, which includes Malakai Black, Brody King and Buddy Matthews. I recently stumbled upon her Instagram and questioned Danny as to why he never told me she had such banger photos. Julia Hart truly is a vibe, and I’m jealous of the creativity in her photos. In recent months, she’s been wrestling more and more instead of just being the House of Black’s valet. I was super excited when she finally became the TBS champion at Full Gear.

Earlier today, I went back through my blog knowing it needs maintenance. A task for Christmas break. I landed on my breakup post of 2020. I cried reading it back. I was so lost and numb back then. But I was also so hopeful and relieved to be out of that darkness. I was in pieces when I reconnected with you, and I think of how you’ve slowly, but steadily, put every single piece of me back together.

I felt beyond accomplished this past Halloween season! I mean, I got myself into TWO costumes. Who is she?! I noticed I haven’t really gotten into the full Halloween spirit in the past few years, especially because I’ve had a Disney vacation planned every October.

More Halloween Dates 🎃

We finally visited Oscar Wilde during the Halloween season! Unlike Lillie’s Victorian Establishment, Oscar Wilde’s was adorned head to ceiling with creepy, blood-thirsty clowns with special guest appearances from Pennywise and Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Originally, I wanted to wear my blood splatter dress from BlackMilk Clothing with my Pennywise beret and SS George bag BUT I can’t find my dress. I know it’s somewhere in this tiny room in our apartment because I wore this dress at MonsterMania. I think it’s a testament to me having too much clothing. Despite my internal meltdown about not wearing the outfit I intended (because I’m incredibly stubborn and need to stick to my plan), I decided to still don my Pennywise beret and get over it.

Halloween Dates 🎃

I was supposed to leave the house last Halloween for Danny and I’s anniversary to dine at one of the festive restaurants in the city, but I was plagued with an anxiety episode that wouldn’t let me dream of going anywhere. I never talk about these episodes, but they do happen from time to time where I just cannot leave the house otherwise I’m in distress from the anxiety. I hate it because I have fomo from not doing what I had intended and I get upset with myself for not pushing past it. I’m just grateful to have a partner who understands and doesn’t shame me for it. There are plenty of unsupportive people in this world, but Danny is not one of them. I booked two restaurants this month in a way to make up for my shortcomings last year. 😆

The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze

I finally crossed The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze off my Halloween bucket list this week! While brainstorming what types of Halloween activities I wanted to do this season, I finally decided it was time for me to experience the Pumpkin Blaze here in New York. My first time visiting a pumpkin trail was at Jack’s Pumpkin Glow in Philly five years ago. Sadly, I don’t believe The Glow exists anymore, but I definitely loved my first Jack O’Lantern Blaze and was excited to see what my local trails had in store for me.

Halloweenversy

For our Halloweenversy (I just made that up), we decided to go out in our matching black and orange outfits for a cute movie date. Ironically, we didn't actually plan this outfit, it just organically came together. I had ordered a pair of Halloween skirts in hopes of sporting at least one festive outfit for this year. They just happened to match the jeans that Danny ordered from Hot Topic for his Mad Hatter costume. For the hat, a year ago, Danny gave me an extra pumpkin beanie he had from Blackcraft after he saw me showing off my evil pumpkin beret. Lastly, I ordered an orange Micheal Myers sweatshirt from Not Your Average Babe that I had fell in love with this past summer. Turns out, Danny wanted one too... so here we are with all the components for a perfect couple Halloween outfit.

My Halloween Watchlist

I’m what you would call a connoisseur of horror movies. The majority of films I’ve watched this year have all been horror. I am the very essence of that meme the mocks people who only watch “scary” films during Halloween. So, what does someone, who only consumes horrible and scary content all year round, watch during October you may ask? I’m going to be enjoying some less frightening classics that I haven’t seen in a while this spooky season, along with some new horror additions I’d like to watch again. There are also some new horror films and television series being released this month that I am both excited and curious to watch.
