All I Want for Christmas

I hate being a phantom in my partner’s life. You never meet their family. You rarely engage with their friends. You’re never a presence on their social media. You start to wonder if people in your partner’s life even know you exist. Thus, you never bother introducing them to your own family. You never have social gatherings where your partner is present to hang out with your best friends. You don’t even bother showcasing your partner on social media. It’s the lack of commitment and connection that is infuriating to me. The sense that you’re not even a priority to this person. What is the point of even having a relationship if there is going to be space and distance? I don’t want to live a double life. I want all aspects of my life to intertwine with each other.

Fast forward to now, Danny has never shielded me away from his loved ones. He’s told everyone in his life about me. I’ve spent time with some of his brothers. I’ve met his best friends. In turn, he’s met my best friends. He’s joined in our adventures out in the city. He’s gone to birthday dinners. He’s even been on vacations with my loved ones. We constantly post about each other on social media. We occupy squares in each other’s IG grids. For the first time in my life, I’ve changed my profile picture to a couple photo! Danny writes the cutest and most endearing statuses about me. He’s not afraid to let the world know that I am the love of his life. I feel loved. I feel important. I feel seen.

Everyone in both our lives have been extremely supportive and happy for our evergrowing relationship. It’s nice to see the people you love ecstatic for your future with your forever person. I’ve never really felt that type of support and love before for any relationship I’ve had in the past, but the people in your life can tell when you’re at your happiest and treated with care, especially your family. We’ve been together for over a year, and so it was the perfect moment for us to meet each other’s family.

Although it can be exhausting, I loved that we were spending time on Christmas with both our families together. Just being with Danny on Christmas is special to me because I’ve had so many relationships where we never spent any holidays together. It was exciting that we were adding our families into the mix now. I finally got to meet Danny’s mom after being friends with her on Facebook all this time. She gifted me handcrafted Grogu charms she beaded herself along with cute Grogu socks. It was really sweet of her, and it meant a lot to me. We had a really chill time hanging out with his Mom and brothers. I felt like I was part of the family, and it’s something I’ve always wanted. 

Danny got to meet everyone in my immediate family, including my fuzzball Luna. I think she loves him too because she was laying by his feet for a while. I mean, Luna didn’t even bark at him, and she usually barks at everyone. I thought it was cute that my Mom wanted Danny to come over, and even asked what he wanted for Christmas. We had a relaxed time at my house as my parents are very easy to talk to. I’m glad they have finally met Danny. I hope Danny feels as accepted and a part of my family as I feel by his. This year was a really special Christmas for me. I can’t wait for many more holidays with the family for years to come.

Also, I’m very eager to execute my diabolical plan of making Danny match with me on Christmas next year… just you wait and see.
