Pizza Monsters!

When I was a young sprout, there were various VHS tapes I used to pop into the VCR player and watch obsessively week after week. As I stated before, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were my jam, and so naturally I had a VHS tape for one particular episode of the 1987 cartoon series called “The Case of the Killer Pizzas.” I don’t know how I got this VHS or who gave it to me, all I know is that I impulsively watched it day in and day out.

To make a long story short, Krang and Shredder conspire together to take down the Turtles by transporting monsters from Dimension X. These monsters are born from meatball-like eggs that hatch once warmed. Under the orders of Shredder, Baxter Stockman scatters these eggs on pizzas, which are given to the Turtles as prizes. Once these pizzas were microwaved, it was game over and thus, the Pizza Monsters were born. Initially, these monsters are red and very small. However, just like Gremlins, once these little terrors come in contact with water, they mutate to giant, yellow monsters that resemble something like Xenomorphs. It’s obvious Shredder is an idiot and didn’t think this through as these Killer Pizzas just didn’t give a fuck. In the end, Shredder has to team up with the Turtles to defeat these angry, mutated cheese pizzas.

Fast forward to now, Danny and I have bonded on the fact that we were turning up back in the day, watching the same VHS tape over and over with the same TMNT feetie pajamas. When NECA came out with these Pizza Monsters in 2021, it was a sign from God (or Satan, who really knows) that we belong together. Let me tell you though, they took FOREVER to get here. They finally shipped just in time for Christmas after I had ordered them back in early spring, and they are so cool! It’s definitely awesome to have a piece of your childhood nestled in a NECA box to look back on.
