ADVENTURES OF AN INTROVERT... PART 2!

Come follow along on the rare occurrences I decide to leave the house. These outings will start to decline because summer is basically here, and I hate it. 🙃

5/12 - AEW Dynamite & Rampage
Here we were again, going to a wrestling show at the very last minute. It's funny because I had the same feeling I did back in September about Grand Slam. I felt in every fiber of my being that I was supposed to BE at this Long Island show. That it was my destiny. And, poof! It became a reality. I’m sorry to be Darth Vader level dramatic, but it's true LOL. I wanted to go to the Long Island show because there are quite a few hometown heroes in AEW, most notably MJF and Johnny Silver. Besides Mick Foley, I don't remember there being that many wrestlers from Long Island back in the day. In contrast, AEW is made up of so much New York talent, it’s insane.

The show was amazing. CM Punk came out to an unruly crowd set to wrestle our beloved Johnny Hungie, a Long Island native. He played into the fact that he’s quite the villain on our island (despite being a babyface literally everywhere else) by trolling us in an Islander jersey. At one point, the crowd was chanting “your pizza sucks” because Punk’s from Chicago LOL. I was super stoked to see Danhausen wrestle for the first time in AEW, only for him to lose in two minutes LOL. I was shocked as you don’t see this very often in AEW. At least, he cursed quite a few people at the show. Very nice, very evil. I had the unique opportunity of seeing MJF, one of the greatest heels of our time, come out to a roaring Long Island crowd. This is the only place in the world that cheers for MJF, and I loved it. It’s actually quite fitting that he’s a heel from Long Island, considering our hometown is a heel itself within New York State. Being a Long Islander, I’m allowed to say it’s populated with awful people lol. Although, MJF will tell you Long Island is the most magical place in the world. LOL. “I’m from Long Island, and that means I’m better than you, and you know it!” Nonetheless, I’m still proud of our hometown asshole, Maxwell Jacob Friedman. I also can’t forget how Chris Jericho came out insulting the island he was born on and threatened to throw a fireball at someone’s face because he’s a wizard. 🤣

The biggest highlight of the night was getting to see the dream match of Darby Allin vs. Jeff Hardy. These two are lunatics, willing to sacrifice their bodies for our entertainment. Some may say they’re more like stuntman than wrestlers, but either way, I’m always here for it. There is no platform or ladder these maniacs won’t jump off of. It was also awesome to see the legendary Hardy Boyz together in person. I’ve been watching these two since I was a kid. I mean, Jeff Hardy walked, so Darby Allin could run. I joked to Danny that Jeff Hardy was one of my first wrestling crushes, and that he was now, fighting my current wrestling crush, Darby Allin. It’s a dream match for other reasons. I know he rolled his eyes LOL. I’m not sure why I’m attracted to insane daredevils.

5/15 - Dr. Strange at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Brooklyn
I wanted to experience what the Brooklyn location of Alamo Drafthouse was like before I determined my home base, so I bought tickets to Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This theater is located in a mall center with Target, so it’s more peoplely than the theater in Lower Manhattan. I’m not a fan of that. Another con is the seats are not electric recliners. Blasphemy! I know, it sounds like first world problems, but the chairs at the Manhattan location were so comfy.

Despite my dismay at the non-reclining chair, I did have a positive experience. The theaters are spacious, and the service was excellent. There’s a menu with an array of food and beverages to choose from just like I described at the Manhattan location. I think I was more excited about the pickle fries than the actual movie. I ate every last one of them because Danny and Chris are both pickle haters. I don’t know if pickle hating runs in their family. They opted for milkshakes, mozzarella sticks and popcorn.

I also tried Liquid Death Sparkling Water, which supposedly comes straight from the alps to, as they put it… “MURDER YOUR THIRST.” I first heard of this brand at the Slipknot show back in October. The can makes you look cool, and as if you’re drinking with the rest of the alcoholics at the concert, but instead you’re really just drinking water. It tastes alright to me, since I’m not usually a fan of sparkling water. Still, it’s a fun option since their soda comes in giant cups, and I only ever want mini cans of soda. Like I proclaim to Danny every day, I’m only just little, so I need little sizes of everything to match. LOL. Their marketing is also hilarious. This is the story of Liquid Death, as it reads on the can itself…

“WHEN A GROUP OF TEENAGERS SET OFF INTO THE MOUNTAINS FOR A WEEKEND OF DRINKING REGULAR WATER IN PLASTIC BOTTLES, THEY BECAME HUNTED BY AN ALUMINUM CAN OF MOUNTAIN WATER THAT WAS DEAD SET ON MURDERING THEIR THIRSTS AND RECYCLING THEIR SOULS, ONCE CRACKED OPEN, NO THIRST IS SAFE FROM LIQUID DEATH. AFTER RITUALLY DISMEMBERING ITS THIRST VICTIMS, THIS BRUTAL CAN OF WATER USED THE SEVERED BODY PARTS OF DEAD THIRSTS TO BUILD ITSELF A FLESH SUIT WHICH IT USED AS A DISGUISE TO GET A JOB IN MARKETING. BUT LIQUID DEATH NEVER TOOK THE JOB. IT JUST MURDERED A BUNCH MORE THIRSTS INSTEAD.”

Since we were watching Multiverse of Madness, the previews showed us the history of Dr. Strange in both cinema and animation. It’s the little things like this that make me want to come back to this movie theater every time. I actually LOVED the Multiverse of Madness. It’s funny because Danny likes Spider-Man: No Way Home more than this Dr. Strange sequel, and I’m the opposite. Danny’s favorite superhero is Spider-Man though, so it’s not too surprising. Overall, I think I’ll try to visit the Lower Manhattan location as much as I can.
