Here's what I watched in the month of December! This month consisted of some new Christmas flicks, along with me rushing to watch TV series and movies I haven’t seen before 2022 ends.
Spirited (2022) - I wanted to watch this for Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferell, but I thought Danny was going to kill me when we discovered it was a musical on top of Will Ferell and Tracey Morgan being in this. LOL. Turns out he thought it was cute. So, maybe I can trick him into more musicals in the future.
Violent Night (2022) - When Home Alone meets Die Hard… at least that’s what everyone else is saying because I’ve never seen Die Hard. All I know is David Harbour is MY Santa Claus. This was the violent Christmas movie I was looking for this holiday season. It was a pleasant surprise since I had no idea this film was coming out this year. Christmas Bloody Christmas could never.
Everything Everywhere all at Once (2022) - Not my cup of tea, but I appreciate the comedic aspects of this film and the complexity in its storytelling. I want an everything bagel now. ALSO, can we talk about Stephanie Hsu and every outfit they put her in?! Perfection.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022) - Danny made me watch this. He kept joking that this could end up in my Top 10 Movies of 2022. There is no world in the multiverse where I would ever include Top Gun in any Top 10 lists. I don’t like action flicks, especially those that involve the military. I’ve never even watched the first Top Gun. This movie was just repetitive, and anticlimactic. Like, no one dies in this film? Maybe, I watch too much horror, but it was a no from me.
Smile (2022) - This film isn’t the cheesy horror film I thought it was going to be based on its oversaturated advertising on television. I found most of the film intriguing until we arrived at the ending. Its conclusion is horrible. Plus, like most horror films, its plot line isn’t original. It Follows has the same premise, but gives me intense anxiety throughout the entirety of the film. Smile was unable to provoke the same effect as much of the ending was predictable, even though I was hoping for a more unique conclusion.
TV Shows/Documentaries
Wednesday (2022) - Wednesday was my favorite thing I watched this entire year! I love Wednesday Addams because she embodies half of my personality and I have her mean/blank stare down to a science. I wasn't sure what to expect going into a series dedicated solely to our gothic queen, but I appreciate the storyline and approach they took with sending Wednesday to Nevermore Academy. I love watching Jenna Ortega flourish this year from being in Scream and X to starring in a TV series for the Addams Family. She played the role of Wednesday perfectly! I also enjoyed the introduced of Wednesday's new bestie Enid, who is the polar opposite of her. I really hope we see a second season to Wednesday, it will fill the dark void of Sabrina's cancellation.
Moon Knight (2022) - Of all the Marvel series debuting this year, I was the most intrigued by Moon Knight. Turns out, it's my least favorite of 2022. LOL. I found myself struggling to finish the series until the last two episodes.

Ms. Marvel (2022) - I was the least intrigued by Ms. Marvel, but this ended up being my favorite Marvel series of the year. I’m really excited for The Marvels to come out next year. It’s always funny how that works out. I love the colorful aesthetic and the soundtrack, along with the diversity and culture incorporated into the show. I’m not sure why people pigeonhole this series as one for younger audiences only.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) - I did enjoy She-Hulk, especially the camos from The Hulk and Daredevil. However, I didn’t like the meta aspect of the show. The last episode was meta overkill, and took me out of the series. It’s funny how people thought Ms. Marvel was the most cringeworthy series of the MCU when it’s really She-Hulk lol.
The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari (2022) - I initially heard about this tragedy from the Mile Higher podcast. With the emergence of COVID in late 2019, I feel like this natural disaster got buried in U.S. news. Hearing survivors recount being on White Island as the volcano erupted was heartbreaking. The steam from this phreatic eruption quite literally melted the skin off those who were on the island, causing people to suffer from severe burns throughout their body. I will never step foot near a volcano, not that I ever planned to.
Aftershock: Everest and the Nepal Earthquake (2022) - This docu-series really educated me on the events of the 2015 Nepal Earthquake. I did not realize how catastrophic this earthquake had been. This is why I watch documentaries on natural disasters. It gives me humility and forces me to appreciate not having such an experience in my lifetime. I also never thought about people being on Mount Everest during the earthquake either. Even though I find people who climb Mount Everest psychotic, it has to be terrifying being on a mountain during an earthquake. With the exception of 2020, not one year has gone by since 1980 that several people haven’t died on the mountain.
