I remember complaining to Danny that I didn’t see any splatter colored records, only for the vinyl exclusives to be advertised on Instagram a few days later. Be careful what you wish for! Of course, the vinyl I liked the most was a Wal-Mart exclusive and was not available to order online. We don’t have a Wal-Mart near us in Brooklyn, and there is no guarantee that the store will physically have the exclusive item. I tried to order the Hot Topic variant online, and the store just would not let me checkout no matter what I did. Satan was at work that day, and I don’t know what I ever did to deserve this. I guess he wanted me to have the Wal-Mart exclusive.
I think the soundtrack to the movie is cute! It’s not on the same level as Josie and the Pussycats (probably my favorite soundtrack of all time), but still fun. My top five favorite songs off the album so far are…
1. Speed Drive - Charli XCX
2. I’m Just Ken - Ryan Gosling
3. What Was I Made For? - Billie Eilish
4. Man I Am - Sam Smith
5. Barbie World (with Aqua) - Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice
To be honest, I was disappointed in Barbie World, but it’s growing on me after hearing the song on my socials for the past few months. Either it’s growing on me or I’m being brainwashed. I do find it amusing that Barbie Girl was used for the soundtrack because Mattel hated Aqua’s song back in the 90s. They just couldn’t fight the phenomenon that is Barbie Girl, and knew there would be an uproar if it wasn’t included on the album in some shape or form.
Special shoutout to Ryan Gosling’s rendition of Matchbox Twenty’s Push. I love those moments in the film so much LOL. Sadly, Push is only on the Best Weekend Ever Edition.
I LOVE Sam Smith's Man I Am! It's so cheeky. I also was wary at first of Barbie World when they teased it months before the movie but then it grew on me after hearing it with the movie. The whole album is so good especially after seeing the movie a second time. I do wish they had included the original Closer to Fine. It's been growing on me too.
