Kaylessi: I’m Here for the Moment

We’re so back with another concert this month! This time we got to see Electric Callboy. Thankfully, the concert was at the Brooklyn Paramount, which is fairly close to us whether we take the train or just Uber. I also like this venue because we can get balcony general admission, which means I don’t have to be down in the chaos that is the floor.

First up was Scene Queen, our favorite man-hater. Funny enough, this was our second time seeing her live since I saw her two years ago with Babymetal. She went ahead and congratulated us on our Knicks win since she’s from Cleveland lol. She said it was pretty embarrassing to watch them get swept.

She also had a QR code up on stage so people could vote on whether she should keep her male bandmates or not. LOL. She always cracks me up when she’s on stage. She described her genre as “bimbocore” and was also trying to get what she calls a “twerkle pit” going. Danny said I was lucky he wasn’t down there to twerk, and I just rolled my eyes lmao. You really have to be in a certain mindset to listen to Scene Queen. Still, I also appreciate that she fully embraces who she is and is bold enough to write songs about gross men who like to mess around with underage girls in the scene.

Next up was Polaris. This was my first time seeing them live, and if I’m being honest, I hadn’t really listened to much of their discography before. They’re a metalcore band from Sydney, and they sounded great live. The crowd was fully into it since they hadn’t been back to the States in a few years.

From what I’ve read, Polaris is a very respected band within the genre, and after listening to a few songs afterward, I can definitely see why. Their lyrics are deep and emotionally relatable. It was funny having them sandwiched between two bands that lean much harder into the party/electronic metal sound, but it keeps balance in the universe.

Last but not least, Electric Callboy! This was my second time seeing them live, and I have to say there is nothing quite like an Electric Callboy show. The vibes are immaculate. They also have some of the most colorful crowds I have ever seen, and I mean that both metaphorically and literally. EC is known for their bright colors, hilarious costumes, and theatrical characters in songs like Pump It, We Got the Moves, and Hypa Hypa. I went with a hot pink and turquoise Barbie-inspired color scheme using pieces from Popflex and Buff Bunny to capture that bright 80s workout aesthetic. I also have to give a shoutout to the concertgoers who fully commit to the Electric Callboy aesthetic.

They opened with TANZNEID, and my first thought was, "Damn... have I been sleeping on these new songs?!" I had been listening to more Electric Callboy before the show to get familiar with the latest album, but some songs just hit differently live. Elevator Operator goes so unbelievably hard live!!! I have not stopped listening to it since I got home. It is such a phenomenal song, and it is even funnier knowing it was inspired by the elevator operator at Chicago's House of Blues. These guys can literally turn anything into a techno metal party anthem. It is honestly incredible.

They played their cover of Sum 41's Still Waiting, which has really started to grow on me. It honestly feels fitting too, considering Sum 41's Frank Zummo is now touring with them after former drummer David Friedrich left the band in 2025. It is wild to think Frank first filled in for Electric Callboy back in 2024 when David got sick before a festival and somehow learned their entire set in less than a day. The man is an absolute machine. I guess everything came full circle because with Sum 41 calling it quits, Frank is free to explore new opportunities. I have to say, he was phenomenal live, and I love that he fully commits to all of Electric Callboy's ridiculous shenanigans. 😂

Electric Callboy mostly stuck to songs from TEKKNO and TANZNEID, while also throwing in fan favorites like Hypa Hypa and MC Thunder. They also squeezed in a medley as a tribute to the band's pre-2019 era, back when they were still called Eskimo Callboy, and Nico was not yet the co-lead vocalist. Then things got even weirder with another completely unhinged medley that kicked off with Hurrikan. Danny was absolutely losing his mind because everyone expected the massive growls and screams to hit. Instead, the band swerved into their Electric Bassboy medley, blasting through a heavy EDM remix of RIOT's Overkill before somehow transitioning into Blink-182's All the Small Things and then Bodies by Drowning Pool. It is completely random, completely ridiculous, and somehow it works perfectly. Honestly, that sentence sums up Electric Callboy as a whole.

Another highlight of the night was when they performed an acoustic version of Fuckboi right in the middle of the crowd. They also broke into an acoustic rendition of their cover of Everytime We Touch. One thing that cracked me up was that, from my balcony spot, I had a perfect view of the bartenders all night. I kept catching them pulling out their phones to record parts of the show because the whole thing was absolute insanity. It made me wonder if they actually knew who Electric Callboy was or if they were just fascinated by the giant party erupting behind them while they were trying to serve drinks.

Eventually, EC made their way back to the stage and finished Everytime We Touch in all its original metal glory. We also finally got to hear RATATATA live! I have officially seen both Electric Callboy and BABYMETAL perform the song. Just... not together. It is giving Bad Omens and Poppy all over again.

I have to say, this was easily one of the best concerts of the year. The crowd's energy for this band is absolutely unreal. The entire venue turns into one giant dance party with a healthy amount of moshing thrown in for good measure. Personally, I enjoy watching the chaos unfold from the balcony, although having enough room to dance along would have been nice too. Their performance was phenomenal from start to finish, and I am really glad Danny introduced me to this band. It is hard to describe the feeling they create. It is just pure, unfiltered fun from the moment they step on stage until the final song.

As a bonus, I managed to snag one of the last physical tickets they were handing out after the show as a souvenir. It is the perfect memento from such an incredible night and pretty much confirmed one thing. I cannot afford to sleep on another Electric Callboy tour whenever they come back!
