This family-style meal consisted of scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, slow-roasted beef brisket, Mickey waffles, pork sausage links, and smoked bacon. Breakfast also included specialities like the Celebration Mickey pancake, “loaded” potato-cheese casserole (with a cute Mickey-shaped hash brown crisp), and banana bread French toast. It was definitely a TON of food for just the two of us. I ordered both the Mickey and Minnie smoothies to top it off. The Mickey Mouse smoothie was a mix of both mango and strawberry topped with whipped cream and two Oreo cookies to resemble Mickey ears. The Minnie Mouse smoothie was a frozen concoction of strawberry and vanilla with whipped cream and a white chocolate Minnie bow.
After breakfast, we explored the shops at the Contemporary. We found a cute Buzz Lightyear Spirit Jersey, which had calculations going in my head of all the Disneybound possibilities. I needed it for Danny, so we could match together for our future Disneyland trip. I’m usually not a fan of Spirit Jerseys, but there have been a few that have caught my eye. Now, my evil master plan for Danny and I to Disneybound as Buzz and Woody is well underway.
Once we entered Hollywood Studios, we caught the Mickey and friends motorcade along with the Pixar version. I love that Buzz his own car themed after him. I miss being able to take photos with characters in Toy Story Land, so it was nice getting to see the Buzz marching along the paths of the park. I also instantly gravitated towards the Christmas decorations in the park. I love the decorations at Echo Lake this time of year - the giant Christmas tree, the oversized ornaments, and Gertie the Dinosaur in his Santa hat holding a 50th anniversary ornament in his mouth.
It took us an insanely long time to figure out where we spotted the BB-8 and R2-D2 50th anniversary statues. I was finally wearing my C-3PO top and leggings from Poprageous (RIP) along with the custom Mickey ears I bought from ToNeverNeverland TWO years ago, so I wanted a photo as a trio of droids. I thought it would be more fitting to do C-3PO during the holidays since gold is very Christmas. This outfit got a lot of praise as I received a ton of compliments and everyone seemed to love it. I felt bad for everyone asking were my top and leggings were from though, and having to tell them Poprageous was no longer in business. I still regret never buying the BB-8 set to this day.
We made our way to Galaxy’s Edge for our reservation at Oga’s Cantina. Danny decided to get turnt up during this visit to the Cantina, and ordered two alcoholic drinks. First up, the Jedi Mind Trick. This aqua blue cocktail has a very distinct taste of grapefruit with Ketel One Botanical Grapefruit and Rose Vodka and grapefruit bitters being some it’s core ingredients. Next for Danny was the Fuzzy Tauntaun with Ciroc Peach Vodka, Bols Peach Schnapps, Simply® Orange with Tangerine, pure cane sugar, and "Buzz Button Tingling" foam. I assume it is the tingling foam that is suppose to make your mouth go numb. I didn’t drink enough for this to happen to me, but Danny can attest to this. I opted for the Blue Bantha, which is Blue Milk served chilled with a Bantha-inspired vanilla-butter sugar cookie. So far, the Blue Bantha is still my favorite drink at the Cantina. I mean, it comes with a cookie. I still need to try both the Blue and Green milk though served at the Milk stand in Batuu.
We took photos at the usual spots in Galaxy’s Edge including Danny’s favorite door, before we made our way over to Star Tours. Shamefully, I had yet to take Danny on this ride because it’s not in Batuu and I keep forgetting it’s in Hollywood Studios lol. Star Tours has been the OG Star Wars attraction back when the park was called MGM studios and I was still a kid. Unfortunately, it gets overshadowed by the new attractions in Galaxy’s Edge. It’s location only makes matters worse. Sometimes, I ponder it’s longevity in the park in this age where Disney keeps re-purposing older attractions into something new with their more recent intellectual property. I miss seeing Jedi Stitch when you enter the gift shop after Star Tours. I love that they have Stitch plushies scattered about the park. You’ll see one in a rockstar wig when you exit into the gift shop for the Aerosmith roller coaster too lol.
We took our obligatory trip on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad before taking it easy the rest of the night. I absolutely love the song “Nothing Can Stop Us Now.” If I had to choose a cheesy Disney love song for Danny and I as our anthem, that one would be it. I love those “we’re in this together” type of love songs. The “we’re indestructible” kind of songs. We’re been watching episodes more and more from the Mickey Mouse shorts on Disney+. My favorite short so far is “Wish Upon a Coin” when Goofy and the Seven Dwarves descend into chaos because Pete steals all the coins from the wishing well. It’s up to Mickey and Minnie to rectify the situation. There’s a part where Minnie trips over a dwarf, and Mickey’s reaction is beyond over the top. “Wha happen?”
We made it a point to watch the Christmas projections on Tower of Terror before the night was over. Of course, the Toy Story projections were my favorite. After the show was over, snow descended upon Sunset Boulevard. If I’m being honest, the snowfall seemed weak in comparison to Main Street U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom. I would have preferred the same blizzard on Sunset and Hollywood Boulevard too.
To end the night officially, we had dinner at 50’s Prime Time Cafe. We indulged in our usual favorite dishes at this restaurant: Aunt Liz's Golden Fried Chicken and Mom's Old-fashioned Pot Roast. We both got our share of mashed potatoes, and Danny dodged any green vegetables so it was a successful dinner to end our trip. For dessert, I had Mom’s brownie, which is served with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. A sweet treat to conclude a gratifying Christmas trip to the happiest place on Earth.
Our adventures aren’t over yet. I know, typical. Stay tune for a recap of my first Disney Birthday trip in two years!
