Here are 10 horror film recommendations for all those who are single and feeling very anti-Valentines or for people like me who rather stab their eyes out than watch a romantic comedy.
My Bloody Valentine (1981) “Twenty years ago in the sleepy mining town of Valentine Bluffs, a fatal mining disaster occurred on Valentine's Day while some of the crew was decorating for a party. The sole survivor of the accident killed the remaining crew members and warned the town not to celebrate Valentine's Day again. When a group of teenagers decides to defy that order, a murderous maniac in mining gear begins dispatching townsfolk in bloody and creative ways.”
Warning: I do not recommend the 2009 remake. You’ll never get those two hours back…
The Love Witch (2016) “A modern-day witch uses spells and magic to get men to fall in love with her, with deadly consequences.”
It Follows (2015) “After a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, Jay finds herself plagued by strange visions and the inescapable sense that someone, something, is following her.”
Midsommar (2019) “Several friends travel to Sweden to study, as anthropologists, a summer festival that is held every ninety years in the remote hometown of one of them. What begins as a dream vacation in a place where the sun never sets, gradually turns into a dark nightmare as the mysterious inhabitants invite them to participate in their disturbing festive activities.”
Bride of Chucky (1998) “Chucky hooks up with another murderous doll, the bridal gown-clad Tiffany, for a Route 66 murder spree with their unwitting hosts.”
Spring (2014) “A young man in a personal tailspin flees the US to Italy, where he sparks up a romance with a woman harboring a dark, primordial secret.”
Valentine (2001) “Five friends are stalked by a masked murderer while preparing for Valentine's Day.”
Ready or Not (2019) “A bride's wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.”
You’re Next (2011) “When the Davison family comes under attack during their wedding anniversary getaway, the gang of mysterious killers soon learns that one of their victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back.”
My Valentine (2020) “A pop singer's artistic identity is stolen by her ex-boyfriend/manager and shamelessly pasted onto his new girlfriend/protégé. Locked together late one night in a concert venue, the three reconcile emotional abuses of the past…until things turn violent.”
