This Could All Be Yours

I FINALLY saw Spiritbox live! After being so heartbroken about missing their show at the Brooklyn Steel last year, I was so happy to see the band was going on a headlining tour for Eternal Blue. Truth be told, this was the best outcome for me in the long run. In 2022, Spiritbox was on tour supporting other bands, thus their set list was very limited. First, at the Brooklyn Steel for Underoath. Then, at the UBS Arena for Ghost. I would have only heard about 6-7 of their songs in comparison to the 15 song set they did for their own tour.

Sometimes, you have to have patience but I have absolutely none. I’ve never been this excited about a new band since I started listening to nu metal as an angsty teen trying to distance myself from my bubble gum pop days of Spice Girls, Britney Spears and *NSYNC. Don’t worry, I love my popcorn girly days now. You’re just stupid and “edgy” as a teenager. Anyway, Spiritbox started to get some serious airplay on my iTunes back in 2021. I fell in love with songs like Circle With Me and Constance, playing in constant rotation for the entire year. However, I remember Holy Roller being the song that completely blew me away after hearing Courtney LaPlante’s menacing vocals.

Courtney is a fucking QUEEN, especially on stage. I love seeing women like her conquer metal. I need more of this please. Spiritbox has truly become one of my favorite bands. Eternal Blue is such a beautifully moving album from start to finish. It made my heart happy to hear them play the majority of the album at the show. Opening with Sun Killer, going right into Hurt You and then Yellowjacket was phenomenal. I was beyond excited to hear new songs like Rotoscope and Hysteria as well. I wouldn’t have heard these songs had I gone to the shows last year. Also, speaking of my bubblegum pop days, they played a cover of my favorite No Doubt song, Hella Good! Girl, how did you know?! This NYC show was truly meant to be. I’m absolutely dying to see them play live again and to hear new music. It’s been an awfully quiet year in terms of concerts, so I’m fortunate to have had this moment with Spiritbox. Next up will be TDWP at the end of September! It’ll be the serotonin I need for the beginning of Halloween.
