Halloween Dates πŸŽƒ

I was supposed to leave the house last Halloween for Danny and I’s anniversary to dine at one of the festive restaurants in the city, but I was plagued with an anxiety episode that wouldn’t let me dream of going anywhere. I never talk about these episodes, but they do happen from time to time where I just cannot leave the house otherwise I’m in distress from the anxiety. I hate it because I have fomo from not doing what I had intended and I get upset with myself for not pushing past it. I’m just grateful to have a partner who understands and doesn’t shame me for it. There are plenty of unsupportive people in this world, but Danny is not one of them. I booked two restaurants this month in a way to make up for my shortcomings last year. πŸ˜†

Firstly, I decided to visit Lillie’s Victorian Establishment in Union Square. This whimsical Victorian-inspired restaurant serves classical American dishes along with a bar full of unique cocktails. Lillie’s has become quite famous for it festive decor throughout the seasons, so it was no surprised I wanted to dine here during Halloween. The entire restaurant is decked out in spooky decor with skeletons hanging from every inch of the ceiling. I absolutely loved it! I choose to dine at the Union Square location during brunch hoping it be a quieter setting with less people. I hate when restaurants have music blasting, and I can’t even hear myself think.

Lillie’s is still serving their Wonderland cocktails, so we ordered Sangria Down the Rabbit hole. The sangria was served in a teapot in which you pour over a large clear ice cube, rose petals and fruit in Victorian style tea cups. It was so cute! It made me regret not visiting the restaurant over the summer to see the Wonderland decor. I don’t usually drink, but I find sangria enjoyable because it doesn’t taste like alcohol. This variation was pink sangria made with Rose wine, Rosato, Rhubarb and a touch of Rose water. Danny said sangria was dangerous as he proceeded to get tipsy off drinking most of the teapot LOL.

Danny ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich with fries, while I decided on the French toast. We both approved of our dishes. However, I always find myself ordering sweet brunch dishes for the aesthetics when I really prefer savory breakfast foods. I will say though, I love whipped cream and fruit together. After our brunch, we took a quick walk through the Union Square market before boarding the train to Lower Manhattan.

I had alternative motives when going Downtown to visit our favorite movie theater. The Alamo is very close to Pier 17, where the famous Pumpkin arch resides. I was hoping no one would be there because it was a rainy morning, but it began to clear up in the afternoon. Luckily, the line was pretty short to take photos. For some reason, the vibes were just off that day. My outfit wasn’t outfitting the way I wanted it to and I was regretting my wig choice. I also look stiff and dead in my photos. Sometimes, I feel like my first shots of the day are off because I’m not in the modeling groove yet. You win some, you lose some.

The Pumpkin arch is more of a portrait frame this year, which I enjoyed. It was different from the typical arch that they do every year. We hung out at the pier until our movie because it was gorgeous out! The cool, breezy air of autumn with a magnificent view of the Brooklyn bridge gave me the serotonin I so desperately need right now. We walked back to the Alamo so we could cross the new Exorcist movie off our horror watchlist. For this new installment of the Exorcist, I had very low expectations as I always do for horror remakes and reboots. I had also seen the negative reaction online already.

The verdict: it’s just okay. I’ll never understand why David Gordon Green is allowed to participate in the screenwriting of the horror movies he directs. It’s just a script full of strange monologues by legacy characters. He did it with Laurie Strode in the new Halloween legacy trilogy, and he’s doing it yet again with Chris MacNeil in The Exorcist: Believer. It is the main reason I hate Halloween Kills so much. Not to mention how other characters inbHalloween Kills would keep retelling what occurred in 1978 like I’m some fucking idiot who hasn’t watch the original film a thousand times. This man must be stopped. If I see Reagan doing weird ass monologues in the next film, I’m going to lose my shit lol.

Overall, I’m really enjoying October with my favorite person on this planet. I’m really proud of myself for leaving the house and getting to do so much this Halloween season. I’m already planning costumes to shoot and activities to do next year!
