The Gang is Back Together!

It was great to be with my friends again on Saturday. We even had a photoshoot with one of my favorite photographers. It's always a bit of a challenge to get Felipe available to take our photos, but we managed to wrangle him for a few shots. LOL. He's a rare unicorn sighting.

Despite the scorching 90-degree weather and the blazing sun trying to murder me, the day went well, and my skin escaped unscathed. I was worried that my bag was rubbing off my sunscreen, but luckily, that wasn't the case. Danny told me it was only a 5 to 10-minute walk from Union Square to Hudson Yards, but I knew it had to be longer. My watch confirmed my suspicion with a 30-minute walk. This is a reminder never to trust a New Yorker's estimation of distance fully.

We decided to take photos at the rooftop park at Pier 57. I had never been there before, and it offered beautiful views of Little Island and the World Trade Center. I would have loved to visit Little Island if the sun hadn't been so murderous that day. The side of the park near Little Island was in the shade, and there was a refreshing, cool breeze. I would have stood there forever if Felipe hadn't decided to drag us to the unshaded side. Thankfully, the park wasn't too crowded at this time.

We visited the waterfront market at Pier 57, which has a food hall. While there, I noticed a hot dog spot called Glizzy's. Since Danny loves hot dogs, I made a mental note of it. To escape the summer heat, we decided to have lunch at the market downstairs. Some of us ordered hot dogs while others went for lobster rolls. For dessert, we headed to Mango Mango at St. Marks. I really miss sago and mango ice cream. Also, being in the East Village made me nostalgic for Brooklyn Dumpling Shop and S'MAC.

Conveniently, Quad Cinema was located nearby. This movie theater specializes in showing indie and international films. I saw an advertisement on Instagram about the premiere of the Drafthouse horror film "Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person" happening this weekend. I've been curious about this movie for a few months, and it seems like Instagram knew it. Sometimes, I find social media intrusive, but I'm also grateful because I wouldn't have known about this movie otherwise. I often wondered whether it would even be shown in theaters this year. All in all, it turned out to be a perfect way to end my day!
