Summer BBQs!

We ventured out to Long Island for our annual summer BBQ on the 4th of July. It was a nice break from the hellish week I had at work. I’m so glad that bullshit is over finally. It’s healing to be with good friends and eat yummy foods. It’s a weird day, though, because I’m not too fond of this country right now. Some of America’s holidays have proven problematic when you look back at history without rose-colored glasses. I loved this holiday as a kid when I was young and naive.

I fondly remember being at my
grandparents’ house, swimming in the pool all day, and watching my uncles recklessly shoot off fireworks in the backyard at night. Then, there were the years my Uncle and Aunt would host 4th of July gatherings, and we’d walk down to Shirley Beach and watch the full-on fireworks display that civilians would put on. I suspect I just loved fireworks and BBQ food back then, too, but not America. LOL. It’s like how I used to love summer because it meant I got to swim in my Uncle’s underground pool with my cousins. I was an aquatic creature back then… now I’ve grown to hate summer and never swim anymore. Sometimes, growing up is sad, but I’ll always hold on to the good memories I had with friends and family.
