Philly!

Since we were in town to see Korn in concert, I left an extra day to explore the city. It's strange, but every time we visit Philly, it seems to be raining, which limits our exploration. Typically, our trips to Philly revolve around conventions or concerts, leaving little time to venture beyond our intended destinations.

Danny was keen on visiting Eastern State Penitentiary to capture some photos with his higher-quality camera. This was a great opportunity to hone my photography skills and become more proficient with the fundamental functions of my camera. I had always been intrigued by the idea of photographing this place, especially since this was my fourth visit to the penitentiary, and I still found it captivating. I briefly considered attending Halloween Nights at the prison, but after reading negative reviews online, many people did not enjoy the event as much as Terror Behind the Walls. It's interesting how some seasonal events have experienced a decline in quality post-Covid, and I'm uncertain about the reasons behind this trend.

After that, Danny requested we stop by the Suplex Vintage Wrestling store. We got caught up in an Oktoberfest event while trying to find the wrestling store. I forget it’s that time of year again. I never have an interest in going to these events because I do not drink. Suplex Vintage Wrestling is a unique store and social space dedicated to all things wrestling. It offers a wide range of vintage wrestling merchandise and also hosts various events for wrestling enthusiasts. The store is filled with wrestling memorabilia, including championship belts, an arcade wrestling game, and an entire WALL of wrestling action figures. Additionally, they organize events such as WrestleMania block parties featuring live wrestling. Danny was really excited, mentioning that he does photography for MLW. What a hot shot he is now. One of the guys was nice enough to let me take a photo with one of the championship belts. It was decided the ECW World Heavyweight Championship was the belt for me. LOL.

We enjoyed a meal at the Craftsman Row Saloon. I stumbled upon this restaurant that morning while casually browsing through Instagram. The restaurant had cleverly promoted its Nightmare Before Christmas pop-up, featuring themed Halloween decorations. Intrigued by the idea, I obviously fell into the IG trap and couldn't resist making a reservation. The restaurant's ambiance was delightful, and while the cuisine was typical American fare, the overall experience made it fun. The menu was filled with various Halloween-inspired appetizers, entrees, desserts, and cocktails. I decided to try the blood bag cocktail because it was served in… well, a blood bag and the spooketti & meatballs for my main course. Danny was boring and took no risks on their featured Halloween items.

We headed to Elfreth's Alley in the evening to take some photos. Elfreth's Alley is renowned as one of the oldest continuously inhabited residential streets in the United States. The street is adorned with charming 18th and 19th-century homes, showcasing stunning colonial and Federal architectural styles. I truly appreciate the historical charm and architectural beauty that Philadelphia has preserved. Walking along Elfreth’s Alley, you are enveloped in a serene ambiance as you wander down the narrow street, passing by vibrant homes and lush greenery. Moments like these make me realize how Philadelphia’s historic character and architecture stand out, especially when compared to the more modern look of New York City.

After enjoying a full day of activities in Philadelphia with great weather, we made one last stop at Cherry Street Pier to take in the vibrant waterfront and stunning views of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, which connects Philly to New Jersey. It was a great day, and I'm excited to explore more of what Philly offers. Interestingly, I'll be returning to the city soon for the two-night Metallica show next year. I'm a casual Metallica fan, but I regret not seeing them live when they came to New York in 2023. It's funny how things work out because I mentioned to Danny just a few months ago that I wanted to see Limp Bizkit in concert, and now they're touring with Metallica. My regrets always find their way to a positive outcome in the end.
